Surrey Training Group Meeting – June 2024

Last Friday, we held our Surrey Training Group meeting with our new Group Training Officer Belinda Jones. We welcomed our members to our CISTC training Centre at Natta Head Office.

The morning began with our usual networking breakfast. Belinda opened the meeting, and introduced herself to the group, allowing her to meet and connect with our members for the first time. She also gave an overview of the agenda and shared the latest news and updates from the Surrey Training Group.

Our guest speaker Candace Braby, from Activate Learning then gave a presentation about Apprenticeship Courses and their associated benefits. She ran through grants and funding information and discussed the apprenticeships available at the Activate Learning Colleges. Different routes into the construction industry such as HNC’s were also highlighted to the group. With apprenticeships being the number one route into the construction industry, the presentation provided valuable insights into opportunities for professional development for young people within our industry.

After a quick coffee break, the agenda shifted to an update from Steve from CITB.  He shared the latest news and updates including the future needs of the industry. Steve also discussed the new CITB portal, scheduled to launch in August. CITB supports the construction industry by attracting talent and fostering skill development.

Surrey Training Group Officer Belinda commented: “It was a pleasure to meet everyone as the new Surrey Training Group Officer. I think everyone took something useful away with them, and I hope they enjoyed the morning as much as I did. Looking forward to the next one in September.”

The meeting ended with a group discussion and our free raffle. Well done to all of our raffle winners! We are grateful to our guest speakers and everyone who attended the meeting. Also, a huge thank you to our two members from UKR Group who kindly brought in some Krispy Kreme doughnuts for the group to enjoy, they went down a treat!
